The collection includes numerous photographs: studio portraits, group portraits, informal portraits of Charles S. Stobie. Group portraits of Charles Stobie with Jim Baker and Indian Agent D.C. Oakes; James R. Thompson; Jack Crawford; Charlie Christie [Christy]; "Yellowstone" Luther S. Kelly and John Howard, scouts for General N.A. Miles; and Albino Shevenia, Pueblo Chief, N.M., and Charlie Christy posed in front of a house in Denver, Colorado. Charles Stewart Stobie, a.k.a. "Mountain Charlie," was an early artist-documentarian of the Colorado frontier in the 1860's and 1870's. He was a colorful Denver, Colo. personality who worked as an Indian fighter, scout, buffalo hunter and was a member of the Ute Tribe and an intimate of many of the major figures and icons of the day. Luther S. Kelly, known also as "Yellowstone Kelly", was a trapper, hunter and Army scout. In 1898 Kelly was sent to Alaska to serve on the Reindeer for Alaska Relief Expedition. He was later assigned to an expedition under E. F. Glenn that scouted mail routes to Yukon posts.
